Welcome to the homepage for the Iowa vs Maryland Football game on October, 1st, 2021.
We're planning a GOLD OUT!
UMD has decided that the Iowa game will be their Blackout game. So, we decided to make it our Gold Out game, that way, the stadium will be Black and Gold!!!! Check out the shirts below that you can get to help make this truly KinnickEast!
NEW: At the end of the first quarter, we will wave back to Iowa and say hi to the Children's Hospital. Since we won't fill the stadium, we'll use our phone's lights to help out! Help us share the entire weekend with this #GoldWaveDC

Gameday Tailgate
We can't wait to welcome the Hawks to town and show Maryland how we tailgate! Everyone is welcome, even if you don't park with us. There's buses from around campus and from the metro and will drop you off right near our lot. Here's all the information we have available. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Also, here's UMD's tailgating guide for all their lots: Tailgating Guide - University of Maryland Athletics (umterps.com)
Parking Lot: We are in LOT C1. All the parking spots are accounted for so we will not be taking any more waitlist requests. UMD Police have reached out to us about sharing the official open times for all the lots. They will not open any earlier than 3pm. Please plan for traffic as the area will have students/faculty leaving and fans arriving.
In addition, other parking lots appear to be sold out as well. Stubhub has some available but they're not cheap. Here's UMD's parking site with all their details: FAN PARKING on 10/1 | UMD DOTS. If you can't find a spot, we do recommend taking the Metro and then taking the QuickBus to and from the train station. Metro stays open till 1AM. More information can be seen below in our FAQ.
Food: There will be a large charcoal grill that we'll cook pork loin, brats and burgers on. This will be first come, first serve and food should be available around 5:30 (gotta give us time to get the grill nice and hot!). We'll also have some sides available provided by the club. We request a $5 donation per plate but will definitely welcome more if you want to help us out. Cash or Venmo will be accepted. If you want to grill your own food, you're welcome to use the grill too! And of course, we still welcome all sides that you want to share with the group! As for drinks, this will be BYOB but we will have some water to share.
We've had a lot of great media coverage this week and we're so excited for the interest in our pre-game tailgate! Since we're seeing such a large outpour of interest in the event that we might be stretched a little thin for our grill capabilities. We'll be prepared to serve as many people as possible -- first come, first served. So please be prepared if you're concerned about food availability. You can bring your own food (of course – it's a tailgate!), eat before you get there or buy food in the stadium.
We do want to remind everyone that this entire weekend plans were created and organized by our CAIC Board volunteers. We're sure there will be something that doesn't go 100% according to plan but we just ask for your patience and your #IowaNice attitude as we celebrate the Hawkeyes in DC.
Entertainment: We've got a DJ all lined up to play some amazing tunes starting after the lots open. If you have any requests, please feel free to let them know!
If you haven't filled it out, please check out our survey to help us plan on numbers: tailgate survey.
T-shirts: Our t-shirts will be available for purchase at the happy hour and tailgate.

FAQ
Q: Do you have any good hotel recommendations in DC?
A: If you're visiting us from out of town, welcome!! We're excited to have you join us! There's tons of hotel options in the DC area so it really depends on what you want to do this weekend (besides the game). The game is in College Park, MD which aside from the UMD Campus, there's not much else out there to see and/or do. We recommend staying downtown and then commuting out to College Park for the game (more on that in the next question). Metro accessible hotels in the downtown area are great and even hotels in Arlington that are near metro will still let you commute easily enough. You can then see the rest of the sights and museums when you're not tailgating or going to the game.
Q: What's the best way to get to the tailgate and game from downtown/Arlington?
A: Since the game is on a Friday night, the rush hour traffic may impact driving to the game. If you drive or Uber/Lyft/Taxi up to game, please allow time for DC traffic (anywhere from 45 - 90 mins). We recommend taking the Metro (Green or Yellow line to College Park station) from anywhere downtown. You can go here to plan out the trip from the nearest metro station you're staying at and get an estimate of the time. From Gallery Place to College Park is approx. 22 minutes. Once you've made it to College Park station, you can use UMD's QuickBus shuttle to get to the stadium and our tailgate. Here is a map of where you can be dropped off at. You can also try and Uber/Lyft from the station to the game which should only be 10-15 minutes or more due to traffic.
Q: What's the best way to get to the game from Baltimore and further north?
A: There's a MARC station at College Park Station as well, so you can take a train down and then use the QuickBus shuttle like you would for the Metro option above.
Q: How are you planning for social distancing and other health related concerns?
A: We will plan to follow local health guidance and restrictions. Our hope is that by the time of the game, most restrictions will be lifted or adjusted to a more sense of normal. If you have any specific questions, please just let us know below.
Q: Do I have to be a member to join the activities?
A: Our membership helps support our planning and events like this weekend but you do not need to be a member to participate or attend. Our membership will have access to tickets before the general public. For more information on membership, please go here.
