Iowa fans added college's sports newest tradition last year by waving to the kids and their families at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. We will be extending that tradition to the nation's capital on Aug 5th. We'll be gathering in front of the Capitol at 9am to capture DC area Hawks waving to the kids. This will then be played at Kinnick during the games this season. For more info on how to join us, go to www.capitalareaiowaclub.com/dciowawave
The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) National Board met on Friday, June 9th for their Annual Board Meeting to discuss the Advancement Model being asserted by President Harreld for the UIAA to adopt. The UIAA sought outside legal representation to help with any issues or concerns with the proposed and recommendation actions. New UIAA interim leadership, Becky Scott, recommended to have the UIAA merge with the University of Iowa Foundation to form a new organization. This new organization would be under the legal name of the University of Iowa Foundation (UIF) but have a new facing name that reflects the Advancement Vision. At the end of the meeting, the National Board voted to start the planning for merger to the UIF.
The next steps would be to develop a merger plan and have it approved by the National Board by October 1st, 2017. This plan will consist of UIAA staff considerations, financial obligations and funds, program and engagement plans as well as complete plans on how IOWA Clubs, like the Capital Area Iowa Club (CAIC), will be integrated into this new organization. There are still many logistical and procedural questions that will be addressed in the coming months before the new organization will be finalized, but rest assured, your Capital Area Iowa Club leadership will not stop in our dedication to provide the best engagement and connection to the University of Iowa and Hawkeyes. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Kevin Meredith at [email protected]. We're heading up to Baltimore!! Come join us at Camden Yards as the Cubs come to town to play the Orioles. Go here to get your tickets with the rest of us!
The Capital Area Iowa Club has been an IOWA Club leader for many years with our active members and unique events. All these activities are reported to and supported by the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA). The CAIC and UIAA both partner with the University of Iowa Foundation (UIF) to help with athletic events and engaging with the staff and faculty from the University. Although both the UIAA and the UIF work to promote the University, each has a separate way of engaging the alumni/donors and have different mission statements.
Last fall, UI President Bruce Harreld challenged the leaders of the UIAA and UIF, Jeff Kueter and Lynette Marshall, respectively, to present a new vision of alumni engagement for the University of Iowa. Representatives from both the UIAA and UIF were appointed to collaborate with UI staff to help develop this new vision and strategy and report back to President Harreld. This group submitted their vision proposal and met with President Harreld on Friday, March 24 to discuss. It is President Harreld's decision to combine both organizations into new single entity that will provide a seamless, unified alumni engagement model. This new organization will be lead by current UIF CEO/President Lynette Marshall. You can read President Harreld's memo announcement here along with the supporting reports: https://president.uiowa.edu/people-and-initiatives/new-advancement-model Much is unknown how this will affect IOWA Clubs across the country and specifically, the CAIC. Both National Boards for the UIAA and UIF will be tasked to help develop this new organization and determine its new functionality. Rest assured, the local CAIC Board will still work to provide you the best Iowa engagement possible and as we learn more, we will share new information. If you have any questions or feedback you'd like to share, please feel free to leave them in the comments below. If you wish to send a private message, please email us at [email protected]. Iowa Basketball has started and the Hawks will be traveling back to College Park on Saturday, Feb 25 @ TBD. The Capital Area Iowa Club has been working with the Maryland Athletic Ticket Office to purchase as many group tickets as possible. In order to get the best seats possible, we are need to make our purchase on Dec 1.
We do not know how many tickets will be available so we are creating a reservation system for anyone interested in joining our group. In order to secure a reservation, you'll need to pay upfront for each ticket at $62/members and $72/non-members. If we are only able to get 30 tickets, it will go to the first 30 ticket reservations. All reservations that we are not able to fulfill will get a full refund. All reservations must be made by 11:59pm EST on Nov 30.
